The Autodesk Lustre color-grading system is the premier high-performance solution for interactive film or
HDTV grading and look creation. Production-proven, Lustre has been used to grade hundreds of movies worldwide.
It provides high-quality, real-time color-grading capabilities for today抯 data-centric workflows. Designed
to combine the best in performance and creative tools with advanced configurability, Lustre can be adapted to
the most demanding facility workflows.
Today, at the Mumbai leg of the Autodesk Roadshow, the company announced the Autodesk Lustre 2008 digital color
grading system. Although the product has not been launched as yet, those present at the event got a sneak
peak at the capabilities offered by this software.
For the uninitiated, the Autodesk Lustre software is used by almost every media company worldwide to add colo
r and lighting effects into movies, feature films, ads and TV shows.
Some of the notable movies include Babel, King Kong, Swingtown, cane and Balls of Fury. In fact, hit movies
such as Pan’s Labyrinth and The Illusionist used Lustre for the creation of realistic effects that can be seen
throughout these movies.
Companies rely on the Luster system’s advanced creative capabilities, as well as its cost-effective performance
that is made possible through GPU-acceleration, pipeline flexibility and facility-wide application interoperability.
The latest version Lustre 2008 offers a host of new tools and performance improvements.
Present at the event was Marcus Schioler, Lustre Product Marketing Manager, Autodesk Media & Entertainment, who
explained the new and enhanced features that can be found in Lustre 2008 software architecture.
Marcus Schioler first spoke about the whole Post-production arena in which VFX is increasingly being used in
movies, advertisements and Broadcasts (news channels). He also spoke of how media companies are expanding into
global markets including India and thus workflow is increasing unlike erstwhile India which had no such demand
and obviously no supply for special effects in movies and such like.
In fact, so ubiquitious has special effects become in movies that they are not only found in Hollywood films.
Now, Bollywood hits such as Sawariya and Om Shanti Om have also used Autodesk Lustre to create effects!
