and Chippendale periods in our history. The simplistic design causes the
specific dating of this piece to be difficult because these chests were
built for functionality and were used a great deal in the households for
many years. And, while the year in which the original was created is
questionable, the origin is not! This gem is based on a Massachusetts
design through and through. The lift of the feet and the graduation of
the drawers help to bring your eye in an upward movement that exhibits
the verticality that is so prized in furniture design!
Featuring a dovetailed case with the top joinery exposed, this chest
will be a statement of your cabinetmaking abilities. We walk you through
the dovetails in the case as well as the drawers which are both
half-blind and full-through examples of the joinery that boosts quality.
You will develop the skills to create a bracket style footed base and
select moldings that enhance the case while not over powering the
graceful design as a whole.
